After a first week of waiting for the new playground grass to take root, students were able to scamper on the grass for the first time. Several girls were the first students to try out a soccer ball on the lush, new, green carpet.
Some of our young gentlemen, after staring at the new sod longingly for a week, just wanted to lay down and enjoy it for the first time.
We will give the sod a few more weeks and then bring our soccer goals into the play area. It's a beautiful sight and getting prettier all the time. |

High School Students Bring Smiles |
|
CSCS high school students brought tons of smiles and chased away herds of butterflies on the first day of school this year. About 15 High School students volunteered to line hallways as elementary students were entering the school building for the first day of school. The younger students were met with fist bumps, high fives, and lots of enthusiasm.
The high school students approached Mrs. Bultje, High School Principal, and she in turn checked with Mr. Bray for approval. The high schoolers then went into action. An informal survey during Chapel that day found that at least 90 percent of the elementary students had seen the high school students. Most of those had received a high five or something similar - and loved it!
Those same high school students came early that first day and left another perky calling card. They used sidewalk chalk to decorate the new playground area with pictures of flowers, hearts, and many bright drawings. It was a great beginning on our new elementary campus. Thank you, high school buddies! |

The Grass is Greener on Our Side |
|
We have a beautiful new, green play area. If you haven't seen it, please come look! Nearly 35 volunteers spent just over 90 minutes unrolling 13,000 feet of lovely playground sod on Saturday, July 24. Anyone who slept in - even a little bit - missed the sod party. Wow! That was a great work crew and the result is awesome!
Thanks to all who helped with the planning, prep, and final work day. We're ahead of schedule and that will help our new turf be even better established by the time school begins.
The pictures here let you see where the sod is positioned on the property adjacent to the elementary school classrooms. It will be more fun when you can come see for yourself! |

ARTSONIA - Online Elementary Student Art Gallery |
|
Click here to visit the CSCS Artsonia Site -->
Last year, CSCS Central Elementary joined Artsonia, the world's largest online student art museum that features artwork from thousands of schools. By showcasing student art online, we hope to build community and foster student self-esteem. Thanks to the generous participation of parents, family and friends, last year's effort was very successful, and we plan to continue student online art galleries for the 2009-2010 school year for CSCS Central Elementary students.
